(HSL stands for Heathen Soul Lore)
Winifred Hodge Rose
Will and Wish were both understood, in ancient Germanic thought, to be so powerful that they were often personified as beings in their own right, or used as bynames for Deities such as Odin’s Norse byname Oski / Wish, his brother Vili or Will, and the Anglo-Saxon title Wusc-Frea or Wish-Lord, perhaps indicating Ing-Frey. Muat-willio or Mod-will in Old High German designates the powerful Will of the Mod soul.

Practice Notes
Will and Wish or desire are rooted very deeply within us; they are in fact necessary urges that ensure our ability to live, thrive, and produce the generations and the advances that take us into the future. They can also be great motivators of strife and trouble in all domains of life. On our own path toward wisdom, it’s essential to recognize the nature of these urges within us and to come to terms with them. We need them, and we need them to step forth into our full awareness where we can take responsibility for them and access them as we work with all our souls together.
Bindrunes
I have designed bindrunes that express some of my perceptions of each of the souls, shown in Book II and in the Study Guides on this website. If you have some familiarity with rune-lore, I encourage you to use my Will & Wish bindrune for meditation, and / or create your own Will and Wish bindrune and use that one. If you are not up for creating a bindrune right now, you’re also welcome to meditate on single runes that seem related to your powers of Will and Wish.
Work with your soul-tokens, if you are using them
When you are doing the reading, writing the exercises, meditating, communing with the Deities and spirits, using divination or spaeworking, and working with bindrunes or single runes, keep the token(s) you have already made with you.
Divination and spaeworking
If you like to use runes or another system of divination, by all means use them to explore more questions and insights about how Will and Wish influence your life and record them in your Daybook. Likewise, if you are experienced with spaeworking, seidhcraft, or similar esoteric or magical work, these are excellent ways to explore the souls, but should not be pursued before learning proper methods and precautions as I discussed in the earlier steps.
Initiation Ceremony
You have already initiated your Mod and Hugr souls in previous ceremonies if you chose to do that. There is no initiation ceremony for this Step.
