Here are a few thoughts about meditations we might undertake during any solar or lunar eclipse. Eclipses are good times for meditations on how phenomena occurring in Midgard and the physical universe around us might affect or resonate with the inner levels of our souls. Here are some ideas for eclipse meditations relating to the Heathen souls.
(1) Aspects of our souls are meant to shine out into the world. Which of those aspects might be eclipsed by inner darkness, and is it time for them to come forth and shine now?
(2) The Moon-dark covers the Sun during a solar eclipse, but in turn it also uncovers. What gets changed, there in the dark time, under the dark inner moon, that then is uncovered when the time is right? What is happening within our souls–one or all of them–during that gestational darkness?
(3) The shadow of the Earth covers the Moon during a lunar eclipse. How do shadows of events in Midgard life cover or occlude our souls, preventing the holy light of the Heathen Deities from illuminating our souls and bringing them into our full awareness?
(4) Each of our souls is an individual Being, with its own nature and characteristics. They don’t all react in the same way to events that are occurring around us. How do each of our souls react to the eclipse, in the ways I implied in the previous questions, or in other ways? Are some affected by it, and some not? How and why so?
Think about the word ‘apocalypse’ in the context of these topics: in Greek, it means ‘un-veiling, un-covering’. (Calypto or more correctly kalypto in Greek means ‘to cover,’ and the word-root ‘kal’ is linguistically related to the word ‘Hel.’) The word ‘unveiling’ implies something that is hidden but very beautiful or amazing, that will be revealed when the time is right, as the Moon veils and then unveils the Sun, or the shadow of the Earth veils the Moon.
Here’s another thing to consider about solar eclipses: from our perspective here on Earth, the moon and the sun appear to be about the same size in the sky: a perception that was assumed by humans until modern times. In this perspective the moon and sun are approximately equal in size and hence in power. We now know that’s not true, but again looking from our perspective on Earth the moon is large enough to completely cover the sun in our sky.
What this means is that something smaller and closer to us can block out something that is much larger, more overwhelming, but farther away from us. This is a fruitful meditation topic too: in our own perception and awareness, what smaller but closer things are blocking our far-sight, our deep awareness of an expanded soular system and universe as a whole?
