(HSL stands for Heathen Soul Lore.)
1) Consider whether you’d like to begin making a soul-token, by reading this:
https://heathensoullore.net/soul-tokens-for-working-with-heathen-soul-lore/
If you are not ready to decide yet, it’s not a problem. You can make a soul-token at any point in your studies, even after you’re entirely finished.
2) If you want to begin making a soul-token now, decide what you will make and obtain whatever materials and tools are needed, at least to begin making your token. Use what you’ve read in the “Definition and Overview of Heathen Souls” and “Awakening of the Souls” that you covered in Step 1 to help you choose colors and materials you want to use for each soul.
If you want to wait until you have learned more about the individual souls that you’ll be studying later on, before you choose the color for those strands of your soul-cord, or before choosing the kind of beads you want for your tally-string, or whatever, that’s fine. But get the initial pieces or materials that you’ll be starting with, at least. For example, if you’re making a soul-cord, choose the 9 initial strands that will be hallowed in the Opening Ceremony (if you want to perform that); or get a thin cord that you’ll use for a tally-string and choose a compass-bead even if you don’t choose the other beads yet. If you’re spinning, get your raw materials, and same if you’re carving or painting. Get your bag or other container if you’re making an amulet.
Perform a cleansing of your materials (and tools if relevant) as suggested in the soul-tokens article, or cleanse them according to your own practice. If you’re waiting until later to obtain some of your materials, don’t forget to cleanse them when you do get them.
3) Also decide whether you want to perform the Opening Soul Lore Ceremony, with or without a soul-token. This is the logical point in your study program to perform this ceremony, but if you’d rather wait and do it later, you can certainly do that. Or skip it entirely if you wish.

This completes your HSL Step 2.
